5 things you might rethink on your Dip or Delta

The second in our September series of free Friday webinars helping candidates get ready for their higher-level TESOL courses.

Hosted by one of our DipTESOL tutors, this session will look more closely at one of the ways you can make sure you get off on the right foot - i.e. by being open to new ideas and changing your practice.

We can spend so much time and effort perfecting our technique when we initially qualify that we end up being guided by what John Fanselow termed 'invisible rules' 30-odd years ago (Fanselow, 1987). Identifying our own rules and consciously breaking them or throwing them into question is one useful way we can develop as teachers. Embarking on a level 7 qualification like the DipTESOL or Delta means we need to start thinking more about the 'why' as well as the 'how' of teaching. We can also focus more on the 'what if ...?' or ‘what if (we) didn’t…?’

The session includes:

  • 5 common ELT ‘rules’ you might like to start questioning.

  • Insights from research to help you make informed, evidence-based choices about teaching and course design.

  • Guidance on how you can apply this to your Dip or Delta assessments.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about Dublin TEFL’s Trinity Dip TESOL course, as well as differences between the Dip TESOL and the Cambridge Delta.

To ensure participants feel free to ask questions and discuss their individual situations, these sessions are not recorded. To ensure as many as possible can attend the sessions will be repeated.
